Who are We?

Jar'kay is a registered nonprofit located in Puerto Salaverry, Trujillo, Peru that focuses on stopping the cycle of poverty, improving the lives of children and building positive futures. We provide free afterschool programing, open to all, Monday-Friday where international volunteers empower local children through English classes, Surfing, Sandboarding and Football/Soccer. Additionally, we engage in environmental projects to keep the oceans clean and help build a future generation that will promote environmental sustainability and conservation.
Our name Jar'kay comes from the Quechuan word that means protection. We want to be a protection for children and others who lack the support they need. Through focusing on education, community growth, the environment and equality, we are working to end the cycle of poverty and build a new generation that has access to more opportunities and respects the environment.
Our Mission
To promote education and development in our community through language interaction, sports, environmental conservation and mediating positive interactions between different cultures.
Our Vision
Jark'ay envisions Salaverry as a greener community that promotes environmental conservation. A community where all people have equal opportunities, the younger generation are able to stop the cycle of poverty and everyone, regardless of their economic status or background, has the opportunity to experience the benefits of surfing and sandboarding.
